Haunted ride Evaluation
My main ideas and intentions that I was trying to express in the project were:
In this project my aim was to create a 1 minute long animation of a haunted house, what consisted of 2 to 3 scare scenes and would fit inside the Waverley theatre. I went with a traditional haunted house ride theme with ghosts and skeletons.
The methods I use to develop my ideas were: (brainstorming, , visual research, storyboards etc)
I first created mood boards to get an idea of what style I wanted my ride to be, after deciding on a theme I went onto create sketches of the cart and entrance. I also produced a storyboard for the narrative of my final animation so I knew how it would pan out.
I took a risk by trying something new. (Explain):
I took a risk by mixing both 3d object with 2d projected images in my scare scenes. i think that this worked well and saved me a lot of time.
Some of the unexpected problems I had to solve while working were:
One problem I had when building my ride was creating fog, after applying it to my scene I couldn't set it to the right height and amount I wanted. Another problem I was faced with was cameras and making them move and follow the scares in my ride.
The decisions and choices I made to help solve these problems were:
For the fog I researched and looked at tutorials to help find how to alter the setting and also a suitable level of fog for my scene. For the cameras I just perceived and played around with the timeline until I got it looking smooth.
The things I have learnt from this particular project were: (Specific examples should be cited.)
I have learnt the difference between lights and how you can target a light on a specific object or area. I also learnt how to create fog and camera animation.
Areas for improvement , If I were to do this project again I would change or do differently:
If I was to re-do this project again I think I would work a lot more on the second scare scene. for example because it's a library I would possibly have floating books and I would spend a lot more time on creating the to make it look authentic.
A new project that might grow out of my experience maybe:
With what I have learnt I feel that I could create an animation in my own time and feel comfortable using cameras and lighting.

In todays lesson we learnt how to add textures and how to make quick realistic shapes using diffuse, alpha, bump and uvw maps.
Here is a screenshot from my haunted house.
I have also finished making the entrance for my ride and here is images i researched whilst finalizing my design.
Here is the sketch i created and also the rendered version in 3ds max.

Mood Board
Here is a mood board for the type of style i want to portray on my haunted house ride. i have gone for a traditional theme with skeletons, chains, coffins, ghosts and so forth.

Interactive Space 500 word Evaluation
For the interactive space assignment I had to create a online portfolio which consists of at least 5 pages. At first I created a very simple theme and feel but after feedback from Shaun and other people on the course I decided to focus most of my time in making it look interesting & giving it a personal feel. I researched various online portfolio's until I started to get a feel into how I wanted mine to look and be structured, I kept my website to one font Arial, And 3 colours black, pinky red & blue. I went for a traditional way of presenting information because that's what I believe is the most easiest to follow with the logo in the top left hand corner followed by the navigation bar, Then an image gallery what should hopefully draw the viewer's into my site, Then with the content below followed by a footer.
The pages my portfolio consists of are;
Home Page
I structed the content, so that people would read the tag-line that's in a big font, then go onto reading a brief introduction to my page and myself. I also added feeds from my blogger so the viewer gets the chance to see what im upto / working on and I added a section of my latest work.
About Me
The about me page is very simple in its design I wanted to give it a facebook kind of style with a section on the right with a picture of me and basic information, Then with the content flowing down the right.
Portfolio
my portfolio took a little bit more planning and gave me a chance to be a bit creative because I separated each area of design In which I offer, I gave each area an icon so that the viewer doesn't have to read the heading to find out what their looking at the icon tells them. I used J query to make each of the images pop out instead of going onto another page, what makes it look a lot more proffesional.
With my contact page I kept this simple with a little message from me and a section of other ways to contact me. this page helped me learn a lot more about form's and coding using PHP.
Freebee's
this page is also very simple I've set it out almost as if it was running through a blog, because I do want eventually want it to be in a blog running alongside my portfolio but I didn't have the time to learn how to do it, but it is something I am going to pursue over the holidays. I create a freebee's section because like blogging it is a great way to get gain traffic to my site.
I didn't struggle much with this assignment because it is something I have experience in and love doing, the only things what ticked my brain was the information in my footer didn't show correctly on all browsers but after researching a little on margins & padding's I quickly fixed the problems in my coding, I also had a few problems with CSS3 and borders but it was quickly fixed after a little more research.
If I could change my portfolio I would defiantly change the tag-line & its font because its suppose to be eye catching and because it's the same font and the information so it doesn't work.

Interactive media Week5
In todays lesson we discussed social networking and linking it to our online portfolio's. On my online portfolio i have linked Facebook, Twiiter, Deviant art, blogger and Coroflot i have put these all into my portfolio because these are all social networks i use on a regular basis.
I have also created a page on Facebook specifically to promote myself and then dropped the link into my footer. I've also put my rss feeds onto my homepage so that viewer can see what I'm currently doing.

Interactive media Week4
when designing my portfolio i wanted the main font to be simple and easy to read so thats why i choose the font "Arial". When creating my logo i experimented with various fonts what i found on the internet like MV boil, Comfortaa, Billy Argent Font, Evolution all off on dafont.com after searching and experimenting i came to a decision that the Billy Argent font best sutterd the design, this font doesnt work on the internet so in order to have it on my portfolio i had to design it on Photoshop and save it as a png file.
Here is an example;
Also after i decided this was the font i wanted to use whilst look for inspiration and ideas i cam across this vintage ribbon on deviant art and created by ARTiK-NL link;
This led me into re-designing my logo

Interactive media Week3
Something i have just learnt and found to be a right pain is that i coded up my website using google chrome to test it. and now that ive finished coding after checking it on other browsers ive found that it doesnt display properly but after doing a quick search on google ive found a post stating to do all my lay out with CSS (don't statically set any layout properties in your web forms) and then create different style sheets for each browser type. Then it's a matter of tweaking the css file for each browser through trial and error. BYTES (2008). How can i make my website look the same in all browsers. [Online]. March, 3. Interactive media
Here is the layout and themes i am going to use throughout my website. Some areas still need to be worked on. I have placed a big image gallery at the top of my page showing my best work so that it should intice the viewer to stay on my site.
When structuring my portfolio site i went by the 10 steps to the perfect portfolio website. Smashing Magazine (2009). 10 steps to the perfect portfolio website. [Online]. February, 29. Available from - http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/02/26/10-steps-to-the-perfect-portfolio-website/. [Accessed: 26/02/2011]. When i first designed the theme and structure i kept it very simple with no textures and minimum colors as seen below.
But after showing it to shaun he stated that it looked generic. With the feedback i received i went on to look
at other designers on the web; spoon graphics, Lewis Bilsland, I decided to change the theme making it look a lot more appealing.

Interactive media Week2
These are the wire-frames i designed for the structure of my website. I have layed my website site in this traditional layout because i believe that it is the easiest way for users to follow,With the logo to the right what is then followed by the sites navigation,The navigation im keeping simple with a drop down menu "no fancy designed buttons that have to load up" I am also having an image gallery on my site showing some of my best work so the viewer gets a test of what i do straight away hopefully then bringing them into my site.

Branding
Also after speaking to Shuan and showing him my website he stated that my designer identity name ( menace creations) is of putting. so after researching a little online i have decide to just stick with my name although Leigh Hattersley doesn't sound very appealing. it will help me promote my name in the multimedia industry.
Branding
We brand ourselves on a daily basis through how we act, speak and look. Most of us do it unintentionally, unaware of the messages we send out. It is only when someone we know and respect says 'that doesn't seem like you' over something we've done or said that we get a glimpse of this continuous process.
(HaloBranding., Available at:http://www.halobranding.com/ [Accessed 12 november 2010].In the design world most but not all design stick to particular style of design, For instance David Shrigely is a designer and his style is more a messy sketchy effect.
This screenshot from his homepage shows that even with his website he has stuck to the same effect with the navigation on the right hand side, being in a sketch font. and how the content further down looking jumbled up and not in a traditional way, were that the content is aligned on every page.
moving images evaluation
In my group we was given the script shift and each put into pacific roles. Once given the script we had to interpret it into our own version. It was based on the genre conspiracy
Pre Production
As the director I broke it down using Celtix, So we could highlight the key areas that we needed to find and research. We also didn't have a plot for the film So I came up with the idea that the character has found some documents stating that the government are doing illegal arms deals with the Taliban. I thought that this story would work well in today's time as we are in war with the Taliban over in Iraq.
whilst we was in the planning stages we each exchanged numbers and added each other on facebook to keep in contact. we met up on various days to plan out the film. We also made a schedule of the times and dates we would be shooting.
I did various researching on other films similar to ours in the first few weeks to try and grasp an understanding of how to captured the effect that he is worried and being stalked.
one of the main areas our team was worried about was locations because we found two very good locations, broad marsh bus station & bio city but we was unsure if we would be allowed to shoot their but after getting in touch with them and booking a meeting they agreed to let us record. So with these too key locations it made our film look more realistic.
Production
After shooting the ending scene we struggled to cover up a bill board and replace it with our own using premiere because it didn't look realistic. So we had to re think the ending when it came to shooting the ending scene, I took control and captured a shot of him being watched from inside a car
showing him walking down the street from the side mirror and then opening the door just as he's about to walk past. Finishing the film there I believe let the audience create their own thoughts onto what happens.
Pro Production
Once we finished shooting we made a quick edit and shown it to the group we received various feedback mainly stating that you couldn't understand the story in which we was trying to portray and also that the introduction was too long and it started to make viewers bored.
So with the feedback we received we then went on to restructuring our video. We gave a 3 seconds brake in-between days to help the watcher keep on track with what day we are on. We had various issues with sound on our film, you could hear people speaking in the background so we had to lower the sound and cover it with wild tracks.
As I was the director my role was to plan out how the video should look and to try and help the team achieve this. I also helped out in the editing, lighting and recording of some scenes.
The final outcome of the film was decent. If given the chance to make improvements to our film I would have thought and planned out the story boards in more detail and we would have spent more time doing rehearsals because the acting was quite poor. However, he was not to blame since the actor we had arranged at first dropped out so our producer had to step in. Also I would re shoot some scenes because some shots aren't align with the camera and some are quite jerky.
