my one shot film edit

One shot film edited from leigh hattersley on Vimeo.

We decided to name it "A Suspicious Birthday" as it represents the subject well.

during my edit I decided to add a spy sound affect from james bond 007 it plays from the start till after the envelope has been passed whilst adding footsteps were needed. I kept with the original sound towards the end were you hear the party poppers and Hollie and Amanda saying happy birthday.

then i also added a title and a subtitle saying who took part in creating this film.

Our final filming of the one shot film

here is our unedited  one shot film that we recorder last week. due to the weather we didn't get the result we was hoping for because the snow was really heavy making the visibility on the camera really poor, plus we couldn't use lights.

we made various attempts at the film and we picked the best one out for our final piece and to be used for editing.

Elliot  played the birthday boy in which he came on during the "spy" scene of the drop off were he met me were i  gave him a brown envolope. Elliot suspiciously opens this to which it is a birthday card then Hollie and Amanda come on to the scene with party hats, presents, etc. The film lasted for 1minute 10 seconds.

Lighting seminar

On thursdays seminar we discussed and practised lighting in films. we learnt that lighting plays a big part in film and we learnt that there are 3 key lights.

3 point lights which include:
- key light (hard)
- back light (hard)
- fill light (soft)

Three main properties of light:
-Coherence (quality)
-Colour temperature (colour)
-Intensity (strength)

after learning this in our groups we was set the exercise to create a day light inviroment setting in a studio and to evidence it in a short interview.

heres our examples;

Structuring my new website

when creating my new website first i thought of what information i wanted to get across then structured the design around it.

1.Logo
I placed my logo in the top left hand corner of the page because users  read from left to right then top to bottom and that's how they mostly view websites. so it made seance to put my logo in that position.

2. Tagline
Having a tagline allows the users to gasp a rough overal idea of what the page is about and what the designer (i.e me can do).
3. Portfolio
This is a good way in showing off your best bits off work mostly used in a banner. this can help draw the viewer in.
4. Services
My tagline was a quick discription of what i do. but this part takes them headers and expands them into more depth.
5. Call of action
These are links i have placed in certain areas of my page to try and keep the user viewing then can be links to anything I.e Read more, Contact me, View Portfolio.
6. Social Networking
Adding social networking links into my website allows the user to follow me and see what projects im working on and my design process. it also lets them speak to me alot easier then sending me emails.
7. About me
with all portfolio you have an about me this allows the user to read a little me  and maybe understand how you work, what qualifications you have and were your from.  Its a little along the lines of a cv becuase your trying to sell yourself and your services.

after this process comes the fun part designing the website.

Our final idea for the One shot film

after taking into account what Deborah said over the weekend each of us in the group thought of ideas to add to this storyline for the final one shot & also think of a few new ideas.

So today we discussed our one shot film. We've decided to stick with the original idea of two people meeting up in the park to hand over a package. Then with what Deborah told us about adding a twist we decided to make the twist into a birthday surprise.

Here is the story board for this;

Our practise run at one shot

On Friday we filmed our idea. We tried the idea from 5 different angles & these 2 videos were the best & most effective of them all:

after showing our example to the class Deborah said if we went on to have this for our final piece something twisted / unexpected could happen to make it more entertaining / gripping. Over the weekend each of us in the group are going to think of ideas to add to this storyline for the final one shot & also think of a few new ideas. We will then discuss them in the next seminar to see which we think will work best.

One shot film

today we were split into groups to start our one shot film. Our first task is to create a rough One shot film to get us into the hang of planning and doing risk assessments.

our group decide to create a spy theme after discussing it while walking round the arboureton park although we haven't fully thought through who will be doing what but we have came up with the location of were we are shooting, the story were are trying to get across.

Outline of the story
the film will start off with someone sitting on a bench looking very suspecious while another person walks up carrying a bag. they then sit next to him. there's a  pause as he looks around to see if theyre being watched then the person gets back up only to walk away leaving the bag. the other person who was already sat their then grabs the bag and walks of in the other direction.

but then we couldnt decide either to just leave it their or have the guy look in the bag only to realise that some things missing then going back to confront the other person. were therefore the story conflicts drama.

we came up with a quick risk assessment to try at determine if it was safe and the risk we fount were;
Wet ground
dips in the pavement
steps
camera equipment

all the risks are not very dangerous and nobody should get hurt as it is a very straight forward film.

Here are two example along the lines  of  what we intend to create;

Here’s my 300 word rationale on animation.

For the animation project we have been asked to create a Station Ident that represents ourself. For this assignment I decided to create a music advert because music is a big part of me. First I did a lot of research on station idents to try and determining which ones stood out to me after gathering afew adverts I put pen to paper and started creating a storyboard trying to imagine how I want my station ident to go. I wanted my station ident to have a maximum impact on my target audience what was the music scene.

After searching for Ideas I found a text explosion effect what I found visually effective and generates a sense of excitement. So that gave me the idea to add an explosion. Then I decided to make the text hidden in some boxes at first what fly in only to explode to reveal the text. After this main part of the ident was complete I wanted it to say tv next to the text what has just appeared. but thinking about it more I came to a conclusion after watching bbc2s station ident that I was going to have a tv on wheels that came speeding and skidding up to the text.

Although I finished my animation in 3d max with added lightings to give it shade I wanted to go into more depth with it. So I imported it into after affects and added a sky in the fourground what moves as the ident plays and also added a few effects like curve, blur to make the scene more in-depth.

After I finished creating my animation I imported it into adobe after effects were I added sky in the foreground what moved as the ident played and also added afew more effect like curve what changes the lighting and shading to make the scene look impact. Then I exported and imported it into première were I would go on to adding sound effects.

I really struggled to try and make this a 30second animation because slowing it down ruins the effect and there’s nothing else I can really add to this. But here it is I have uploaded to versions of it the first one showing the ident and the second showing how it would work if it was a real tv station.

Story board for my station ident.

Step 1
This is the start of my animation its 3 boxs following a path of twist and twirls.
Step 2
Shows what the boxs will do once they have reached the end of the path.
Step 4
This shows that once the boxs have exploded they leave the word RAW.
Step 5
This is shown from the top angle and its were a cartoon t.v with wheels onit followers a path skidding round  corners until its placed next to the writing.

The main image (final Outcome) is what im intending the final part looks like.

Interactive Space Assignment
A 300 hundred word rationale outlining my project

For this assignment I got the idea after I woken up from a hard night of partying and not being able to find my car keys so I thought why not make this into an interactive game for my project. The audience this is intended for is everyone really whether you drive or not because everybody loosing something and forget were they’ve put them?. My interactive space doesn’t have any characters in it you play as yourself checking various areas to try and find your car keys.

I started it off as if the player is at their car and doesn’t have their keys on them so they have to go back into the house were they get the choice of two rooms the bedroom and bathroom. Once inside a room they are given various different choices on where to look for example in the bedroom you get options like the bed, t.v stand, shoes, clothes and once you’ve clicked on an area you zoom in for a closer look giving you (the user) the change to navigate that area.

Most of the images contain a back button so you can return to the previous page plus I have added hidden hotspots what are scattered around the page that you have to hunt for some of these links have text what appear when you roll over them as some don’t.

Once you have finally found the keys you are directed down the stairs and back outside to your car were you can now get in. I wanted the game to create an exciting / annoying atmosphere were that you don’t want to give up until you’ve found the car keys as in a real life situation.

Visual Story Telling

In my DP1 seminar we was asked to rearrange frames from the films hitchcock and vertigo into a sequence of 5 images that tell a story. At the end of the lesson we was all given homework what was to produce 3 sequences of 5 photos. So below is what I didJ.

My Design Process

To view my website please visit  www.menacedesigns.orgfree.com

I have been asked to explain my design process of the last piece of work I created. The last piece of work I created was a website for myself to promote my work to the general public and potential clients. As I already created my website I can’t take screenshots and show my design process.

1.       First thing I did was research a little by going through search engines looking at other designers websites to see how they layed there’s out, what kind of information they put into it, Colour schemes they used and font styles.
2.       After this I came to a conclusion that my website would have 4 main pages what were home, biography, and portfolio and contact me. Then all I had to do was work out what and how much information was needed for each page.
3.       After  this I started playing around on Photoshop mixing up ideas until I came to a decision on how I was going to set out my website, the colour scheme and font style I was going to use.
4.       Then combining Photoshop and Dreamweaver I started to create my website using various methods and codes.
5.       The next stage was uploading all images and changing the image source codes so that they are visible once the website is online, and also checking that all the links and coding works.
6.       Then comes uploading my website to the internet and rechecking that everything is layed out correctly, all links work and images show up.
7.       And for my final design method I sent the link around to friends plus posted it onto facebook and asked people to have a look at it see if it is designed/ layed out well and asked for relevant feedback about it.

I often check back on my website to see how I can change it to look more professional and to update it.
